Chandigarh, Sep 29: Just a day after LK Advani's plans to retire came to light, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary on Tuesday, Sep 29 said that senior leaders like Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not need any official position to serve and guide the organisation.
After releasing the party manifesto ahead of the Oct 13 Haryana Assembly elections, Jaitley said that he always believed that both the senior leaders Atalji and Advaniji have been leading the party for five decades and have made invaluable contribution.
"In whatever capacity they are able to serve and guide the party is welcome by every worker. They can do so for as long as they wish. What position (in the party) they hold is irrelevant," Jaitley added.
And when asked about Advani's leaning towards reported 'retirement', Jaitley said that the question should be addressed to the person to whom it relates to.
This comes after Pejavar seer, Sri Vishwesh Teerth Swamiji disclosed LK Advani's plans to retire on Monday, Sep 28.
"Advaniji expressed his desire to retire from politics, but I suggested to him to stay back, because the younger generation needed his guidance," Pejavar seer said after the BJP veteran leader met him on the occasion of Vijay Dashami.
