BJP slams, Congress defends CBI's decision to withdraw case against Quattrocchi
New Delhi, Sept 29 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday slammed the UPA Government for withdrawing all cases against Bofors scam main accused and Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi.
"The Government has always been trying to save Quattrocchi. This is nothing but the betrayal of the nation," the party said.
Reacting to the BJP's statement, the Congress said: "BJP is being unfair, the NDA was in power, what did they do?"
Defending the CBI's decision to withdraw all cases against Quattrocchi, the party said the case against Quattrocchi doesn't have legal validity.
Earlier, the CBI decided to withdraw all cases registered against Quattrocchi.
"We want to close the matter against Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi," said the CBI.
The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that they want to withdraw all cases against Quattrocchi.
Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium told the court that the CBI has failed to extradite Quattrocchi and that the Delhi High Court has held that there is no case under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Bofors matter.
The Supreme Court will hear the matter on December 11. (ANI)
