Injured Kiwi batsman Ryder ruled out of Champions Trophy

By Super Admin

Johannesburg, Sep.28 (ANI): Injured New Zealand Opening batsman Jesse Ryder has been ruled out of the rest of the Chmapions Trophy after he damaged his groin muscle further during his match winning knock against Sri Lanka.

The bulky left-hander swiped 74 off just 58 balls with 11 boundaries as New Zealand posted a challenging 315 for seven at the Wanderers. He did it in considerable discomfort after pulling a groin muscle early in his innings.

That injury has ruled him out of the remainder of the eight-nation tournament, reports stuff.co.nz.

Ryder's post-match celebrations were further muted when he was fined 15 percent of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC) code of conduct for breaking his bat over a chair following his dismissal in the 20th over.

After walking from off the field Ryder struck and broke a chair with his bat as he approached the dressing room.

"This sort of behaviour is entirely inappropriate for any player," ICC match referee Javagal Srinath said.

Ryder pleaded guilty to the offence and apologised at the hearing.

Later, captain Daniel Vettori said Ryder had aggravated an old injury.

New Zealand have asked to bring in Aaron Redmond, a top-order batsman who can bowl legspin, to replace Ryder for the remainder of the tournament. (ANI)
