PM to inaugurate conference on 'Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy-2009'

New Delhi, Sep.27 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a three-day international conference on 'Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy-2009' on Tuesday (Sep. 29) at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

The conference is being organised as a part of the year long programme to mark the birth centenary year of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, who was the founder of the Indian Atomic Energy Programme and also had the distinction of being the President of the first International Conference on this subject held in Geneva in 1955.

The Department of Atomic Energy in association with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Indian Nuclear Society (INS) are organising the conference.

The conference will aim at discussing options that would contribute to developing a future road map for the growth of nuclear energy and its peaceful applications in the back drop of the progress made in the last five decades.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Dr. Mohammed Elbaradei (DG) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Prof. P. Rama Rao, President Indian Nuclear Society will address in the inaugural session of the international conference.

Pranab Mukherjee is also scheduled to to release Bhabha Centenary Commemorative Coins on this occasion. (ANI)
