Melbourne, September 27 (ANI): Brisbane couple Rob and Kate Trenchard married on Friday with a "man of honour" beside the bride, and "groomschicks" backing up the groom.
According to reports, they wanted their best mates, regardless of their gender, to step into the coveted roles of maid of honour and groomsmen.
"Man of honour" Daniel Prosser, the bride's younger brother, said that he had brushed up on all the duties.
"I've got to make sure she doesn't stress and that she looks good," the Courier Mail quoted him as saying before the wedding.
"I get to hold the bouquet while the ceremony is on. I'm all across the 'man of honour' duties," he added.
He said that his family were very supportive of the unusual wedding roles.
According to "Groomschick" Chase Pollard, an androgynous black suit was never an option for filling the role, which is usually taken by the groom's trusted male friends.
"I think the idea (of mixing up the gender roles) at weddings is becoming more accepted," she said. (ANI)
