Meira Kumar joins the austerity drive
New Delhi, Sep 26: In spite of the attack on Rahul Gandhi's 'austerity ride', Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumar on Friday, Sep 25 get on the bandwagon by travelling to Patna in an economy class flight from New Delhi.
However, when asked if she would convene a Lok Sabha meeting on the drive, she said, "this is something which is voluntary. It is up to the members to follow the suit."
While speaking at the function in Patna, Meira Kumar spoke on the need to eradicate poverty.
"Poverty and casteism are two deadly diseases weakening the country," she said addressing the function organised by the Kisan Majdoor Vikas Sangathan.
The UPA government started the austerity drive a few weeks ago asking the leaders to not indulge in unnecessary expenses while the country faced drought.
