Queen's elite bodyguards queuing up for 2012 women's beach volleyball
London, Sep 25 (ANI): The Queen's elite bodyguards are reportedly queuing up for seats to watch the women's beach volleyball at the London Olympics, which will be taking place three years from now.
The games in 2012 will be held on the historic Horse Guards Parade, where Trooping the Colour takes place, and the office of Army bigwig Major General William Cubitt has a superb bird's eye view of the action.
It is said that red-blooded senior officers in the Household Cavalry and the five Guards regiments who protect Her Majesty quickly noted the spot.
"There was a flood of applications. They are queuing up to get their places three years in advance," the Sun quoted an army source as saying.
The office, used by the General Officer Commanding London district, was built in 1751 and occupied by the Duke of Wellington during the Napoleonic War.
It sits above the archway and houses seats and sofas used by the Royals to watch Trooping the Colour.
One tiny chair, used by the late Queen Mother, has its legs lopped off so her feet could reach the floor.
"Seating arrangements are not ideal for strapping officers, but they are not deterred," the source said.
Dave Spokes, of Beach Volleyball UK, added: "I am sure our team will be a treat for all the officers." (ANI)
