New Delhi, Sep 23: Nalini Sriharan, serving a life term in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case ended her indefinite fast after Vellore jail authorities assured that her plea for release would be considered.
After Nalini Murugan alias Sriharan filed a revised petition before the Madras High Court and the government was ordered to constitute a new advisory committee to consider her release.
However, the committee was not formed and Nalini went on an indefinite hunger strike.
Nalini demanded that she spent 18 years more than the mandatory maximum 14 years in jail.
Her husband, a former Tamil Tiger guerrilla Murugan and two other rebels were sentenced to death for their role in the killing of Gandhi.
However, since Nalini gave birth to a child after being arrested, the court said that both the parents of a child should not be put to death.
