Man U's latest treble has sent their season into overdrive: Fletcher

By Super Admin

London, Sep 22 (ANI): Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has said that his club's latest treble has sent their season into overdrive.

The international break has been followed by victory at Tottenham, a European triumph at Besiktas and the incredible 4-3 derby defeat of Manchester City - all in eight days.

Fletcher rates the three results the perfect answer to those doubters who were dismissing Alex Ferguson's men as a spent force before the new campaign began, The Sun reports.

"Everyone has been writing us off and the lads have responded. Winning at Tottenham, at Besiktas and now winning the derby is a fantastic reply. It was a hard week in football terms and you cannot ask for much more than the way we responded," Fletcher said.

"We know how much quality we have. We believe in the manager and we believe in the players in the dressing room. You look around the dressing room and you are happy to have those players in your team.

"People have questioned us but you have to use that in the right way, use it as an incentive to prove people wrong. We have done that," he said.

Fletcher admitted he was emotionally exhausted after the Old Trafford shootout with City.

Ferguson described it as the best derby ever, with United pegged back three times after taking the lead only to win it in the injury time.

Fletcher scored twice to put United 2-1 and 3-2 up, cementing himself as one of United's star performers of 2009.

"It was an exhausting game to play in. It was emotional as one minute we were ahead and the next it was level again. It was up and down but you have to believe in yourself and your team-mates," he said. (ANI)
