Indian student commits suicide in Oz
Melbourne, Sep 21: An Indian student studying accounting in La Trobe University has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself.
While reports say that the student identified to be Gurjinder Singh took this step as he was unable to find a job, Indian Consul-General in Melbourne Anita Nair said that there was no official confirmation of what led to his suicide.
"Crorner report will establish the cause of the death of the student," she said.
Federation of Indian Students in Australia founder Gautam Gupta spoke on the incident in the backdrop of the increasing number of the racial attacks on Indians down under.
Claiming that this was an act of desperation, Mr Gupta said, "It indicated failure of the system. Victorian Premier John Brumby should take personal responsibility for the victim"s death," he said.
