UP village council directs shoe slapping to lovers
Lucknow, Sep 17: An Uttar Pradesh village council compelled a couple caught sitting in a park to slap each other with issues in full public view.
Amar Singh, 26, and Omwati, 21, both residents of the Dhanari village in Badaun district were spotted in the park on Wednesday Sep 16, evening. They were together since 2008.
'Initially, the couple refused to obey the panchayat's order. But they agreed after members of the panchayat said they would have to leave the village along with their parents of they defied the order,' Khempal, a resident of the village.
He added that the panchayat said that next time if caught, the couple's family would have to leave the village and pay a fine of Rs 20,000.
'The matter is serious. We will take stern action against those who forced the couple to beat each other,' said Superintendent of Police (rural) K.K. Pushkar.
