BJP claims majority in Uttarakhand Assembly
Dehradun, Sep 14: Claiming victory in the Vikasnagar seat in a by-election and securing a tally of 36 in 70 member House, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a majority in the Uttarakhand Assembly.
BJP's Kuldip Kumar defeated Congress rival Nav Prabhat by 596 votes in the by-poll.
This comes after BJP lost all fives seats in the Lok Sabha Polls.
With this victory the new Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has breath a sigh of relief as these polls were being seen as the acid test for the new CM.
Pokhriyal took over as CM after B C Khanduri was forced to quit his post after the party's debacle in the Lok Sabha Polls.
