Parents may soon lock adult channels: I&B ministry
New Delhi, Sep 14: Through discussions with broadcasters, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry is planning to introduce parental lock system and fixing 'watershed hours' for adult television programmes.
"With a majority of Indian families still being single television set ones having elderly members, the minister is of the view that such provisions would help make television viewing a pleasant experience for them," a senior ministry official said.
It was reported that the matter was discussed when Minister Ambika Soni recently met the representatives of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and News Broadcasters Association (NBA).
Under this system, parents would be able to lock channels, which are not fit to be viewed by children till a particular age.
Sources said Soni suggested watershed hours for adult programmes should be introduced between 11 pm and 4 am on television.
