Three killed, 18 injured in IED blast near Central Jail in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep.12 (ANI): Three persons, including a woman and two policemen, died and 15 left wounded when a police vehicle, carrying detenus, was blown off by an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Central Jail in Srinagar on Saturday evening.
"Around 5.45 PM I was working on my laptop in my room. I heard such a big explosion, I never heard in my life before. I think around five to six must be dead. This place is around 500-600 metres away form central jail. This is a high security zone, I cannot understand how it happened. Some people are saying that there was an Alto car here and something was planted in the car itself," said an eyewitness.
The death toll may rise, as the targetted vehicle was blown to pieces, a police official said.
According to local policemen, the bomb was possibly hidden in a car but investigations are being carried on.
The explosion occurred when a police vehicle was passing by the jail Meanwhile, pro-Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit claimed responsibility for the blast. (ANI)
