Jaipur, Sep 12: A fresh investigation has been ordered into the charges against Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi for using the National Flag as a table cover on which alcohol was served.
A city court on Friday, Sep 11 ordered police to reinvestigate charges of showing disrespect to the National Flag levelled against Modi and his VIP guests.
This comes after the police filed a report stating that no case is made out based on the denial letter written by the IPL boss.
The incident took place during the India-Pakistan match of IPL season one held at SMS stadium in Nov 2007. The VIP guests were reportedly served wine in the lounge where the tricolour was used as cover on the table on which wine was served.
It was a local organisation Nagik Morch which launched a campaign against the incident and filed a complaint just days after the match. In the complaint to the magistrate the organisation alleged that Modi along with Subhash Joshi, Vimal Soni and other guests took alcoholic drinks on the national flag.
The police who were asked to investigate into the matter just wrote a letter to Modi who in his reply denied the allegations.
