Flores, 44, a Bolivian-born man demanded to speak to Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
He smuggled a false bomb on board and threatened to blow up the aircraft if he could not warn the president of an impending earthquake, reported the police.
Security Minister Genaro Garcia told reporters that Flores had admitted that a divine revelation made him carry out this action.
The plane landed safely in Mexico City, its original destination.
The police stormed the aircraft after the passengers were released but crew was still inside the aircraft.
However, there was no bloodshed in the incident.
