Curfew relaxed in western Maharashtra towns
Pune, Sep 9: Situations improved in the riot-hit western Maharashtra towns of Miraj, Sangli and Ichalkaranji, following the relaxation of the curfew from 8 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, Sep 9, reported authorities.
In Miraj, trouble began on Thursday, Sep 3 during the Lord Ganesha idol immersion procession.
In Sangli and Ichalkaranji one person was stabbed to death and five others were injured. In both these places curfew was relaxed from 10 am to 1 pm to allow people to buy necessary stuff.
Official sources said reported that peace slowly returned after an all party meeting was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, Sep 8 at which, a peace formula was worked out.
The representatives of Miraj Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals would immerse the remaining idols on Thursday, Sep 10.
