Allahabad University students go on a rampage
Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh), Sep.9 (ANI): Irate students of Allahabad University went on a rampage on Wednesday, necessitating a police baton charge to bring the situation under control.
The clash between the students and the police force took place as the former demanded revocation of the suspension of the university students' union and student elections.
The rampaging mob sought to damage university property and the police had to step in to restore semblance of order.
On Tuesday, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Allahabad University performed a 'buddhi shuddhi yagya'.
The programme began with an enlightening speech of former AU faculty member Professor Banwari Lal Sharma.
On the occasion several students offered 'aahuti' and resolved to continue their struggle against commercialisation of education.
Last month, the university penalized eight students and slapped them with a fine for harassing a fresher earlier.
The ragging incident had taken place inside the premises of the Shatabdi Hostel on the intervening night of August 18-19 and the matter was brought to the notice of the university administration. (ANI)
