Afghanistan, Sep 4: A NATO air strike at two insurgent stolen fuel tankers killed and wounded nearly 90 people.

It is said that the blast burnt alive villagers, who had gathered to collect fuel from tankers.

NATO officials said that the strike was aimed at the militants and they were now investigating if any civilian was killed in the process.

A band of insurgents including Chechen fighters had stolen the two tankers around 10 pm on Thursday, Sep 3, reported a NATO spokesperson. He added the militants were blown up 'after assessments that only insurgents were present'.

Baryalai Basharyar Parwani, police chief of the Ali Abad district in northern Kunduz province informed that 60 people were killed and injured.

However, the governor, Mohammad Omar, said the toll could reach 90.
