Melbourne, Aug 30 (ANI): The New South Wales State Government has asked people to reveal the number of their sexual partners in a campaign against sexually transmitted diseases.

Almost 17,000 people in NSW tested positive for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV in 2008. The government wants to spread more awareness about STDs as also their prevention and the campaign is a small step towards the same.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, the government's motive is to get people to really think how many persons they've had sex with.

The 1.5 million dollar campaign includes a confronting website (www.gettested.com.au) and advertisements on the Internet, newspapers and TV channels.

News.com.au quoted the posts on the website as reading: "How many people have you slept with?"

"Imagine all the people you've actually slept with. Now imagine if one of them had a sexually transmissible disease."

NSW's chief health officer Kerry Chant said, the campaign's theme, "sleeping with one is sleeping with many", is meant to remind young people to use condoms, get tested and seek treatment on contracting a Sexually Transmissable Infection (STI).

Both young people and experts are overseeing the formulation and the implementation of the "Get Tested, Play Safe" campaign. (ANI)
