Lahore, Aug 27: Sarabjit Singh's mercy petition was fortified when one lakh Indians signed a petition seeking clemency for the Indian prisoner in Pakistan who is facing death row for his alleged involvement in the 1990 bomb blasts.

Sarabjit Awais Sheikh, counsel for Sarabjit said that he was able to collect as many as 1,00,000 signatures, including that of former test cricketers and chief justices, when he visited India recently.

"The signatories include former test cricketer Kapil Dev, Delhi's Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, Syed Amin Hashmi of the Ajmer Sharif dargah, former Chief Justices RS Mongia and Rajindar Sachar, members of Indian human rights groups, Christian and Muslim bodies, doctors, engineers, lawyers, farmers and students," Sheikh was quoted as saying in new reports.

Now, the mercy petition will be submitted to the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari which will in turn communicate the sentiments of Indians in the matter of Sarabjit Singh's case, Sheikh said.
