New Delhi, Aug. 26 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday said the caste system is causing divisions in the society.
"The issue is of concern. The caste system and humiliation, which follows is getting perpetuated. This is a concern for all of us. It is not just a concern of those who are at the receiving end but for everybody because it is a major.... which is making our society divisive," Kumar said while exclusively speaking to women journalists.
Commenting on the question of Jaswant Singh's expulsion from BJP, she said that nothing has been officially heard from the party about the status of Singh.
Jaswant Singh is also the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee constituted by the Parliament.
Reportedly, the Speaker has the discretion to remove the PAC Chairman.
"I have not received any kind of letter or explanation from the BJP party in respect of Jaswant Singh's case," Kumar said.
According to rules, Singh can voluntarily quit the post but the party cannot seek his removal since the appointment has already been endorsed by the parliament. (ANI)
