New Delhi, Aug 25: According to a news report the Indian government has opined that F1 racing is not a sport and therefore hosting the Formula One race will have no impact on Indian sports.
Quoting sources, Times of India reports that in a letter written to the JPSK Sports, the promoters of Formula One in the country the Sports Ministry rejected the request for getting approval for remittance of 36.5 million dollars required for organising F1 grand prix in 2011 citing "it would have no impact on the development of sports in the country".
"F1 is not purely sports. It is entertainment and this venture by JKSP is a commercial initiative," a ministry source was quoted as saying.
Adding that the F1 race does not satisfy conditions which focus on human endeavour for excelling in competition, the source said that the money could be put into development of disciplines which have a wider base in India.
