Terror Threat: Govt to monitor phone calls, net
New Delhi, Aug 24: Amid the increased terror threat, the Indian government is mulling over monitoring phone calls and internet through a centralised system.
Reports say that the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) is working on the Telecom Security project, which will help the government monitor both calls and the internet in the country.
"It is viewed as a national project ... Basically, it is about monitoring certain messages or conversations so that we can ensure security of the country," C-DoT Executive Director P V Acharya was quoted as saying in a news agency report.
He went on to reveal that this technology would help in providing an interface to a service operator who can then access the messages traversing through the network.
