Swine Flu: Pune to remain shut till Aug 23
Pune, Aug 18: Even though the number of Swine flu deaths in the city has reduced over the past few weeks, Pune will remain shut till Aug 23, announced Pune district collector Chandrakant Dalvi on Monday, Aug 17.
Dalvi told reporters that educational institutions and cinema halls in Pune will remain closed till Aug 23. The number of people coming in for screening has reduced but the number of H1N1 cases in the city is still high, he said.
"Guardian minister Ajit Pawar and divisional commissioner Dilip Band took the decision to keep schools, colleges, tuition classes, theatres and multiplexes closed till Aug 23. Earlier, schools and colleges were to stay shut till Aug 19," Dalvi said.
The number of Swine flu cases in the city as on Monday, Aug 17 stood at 598 with 24 new cases.
Accounting for the 13th Swine flu death in Pune, 36-year-old Bina Gonsalves succumbed to the H1N1 virus. This took the national death toll up to 29.
