Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 14 (ANI): As the race for Malaysian Indian Congress Youth chief intensifies, a hate text campaign against the main contenders for the post through text messages is on.

Mobile phones of 527 delegates were reportedly flooded with short messages questioning the eligibility of the main candidate.

The main fight is between MIC Youth coordinator T. Mohan and lawyer S.P. Muthu Veloo, who is party president S. Samy Vellu's nephew and the party's national youth council member.

An anonymous SMS claimed that Mohan was unsuitable for the post, as he could not even stop his brother Kannan from joining the Opposition party, The Star reports.

Mohan, however, seems unruffled by the smear campaign.

"My brother studied in a Chinese school. He has lots of Chinese friends and joined the DAP. There is nothing wrong in pursuing one's principles," he said.

"My heart is with the MIC. If I have to choose between my brother and the party, I will choose the party," he said, adding that he did not understand why people were making it an issue.

Mohan has received 54 nominations compared with Muthu Veloo's single nomination.

Meanwhile, Kahang state assemblyman R. Vidyananthan is locked in a straight fight with MIC Youth political bureau chief V. Mugilan for the deputy Youth leader's post. (ANI)
