Gandhinagar, Aug 13 (ANI): The Gujarat Government on Thursday set up a three members committee to probe the killing of Ishrat Jahan in an alleged fake encounter.

The Modi Government took the decision following instructions given by the Gujarat High Court.

Earlier, on August 8 Justice Kalpesh Jhavari had asked the State Government to form a probe team while hearing the petition filed by Jahan's mother, Shamima Kausar, seeking an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and also seeking compensation.

The probe panel comprises Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Pramod Kumar, Inspector General (IG) Mohan Jha and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) J K Bhat. The state cabinet has asked the panel to submit its report within six months.

Jahan and her husband and two other associates were allegedly gunned down in June 2004 after they were suspected of being agents of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). Jehan, 19 was studying an undergraduate science course at a college in Mumbai.

It is alleged that top police officials D.G.Vanzara, DIG, Border Range, Rajkumar Pandiyan SP Intelligence Bureau and Dinesh M. N. SP Alwar, Rajasthan were involved in the shoot out.

The Gujarat police had alleged that Jahan and her three companions were planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Jahan's family has refuted the police version. (ANI)
