New Delhi, Aug 11: Following reports that there will be more layoffs in IBM, the company's employee group Alliance@IBM claims that the layoff numbers for the year could touch 16,000.
A media report quotes the union as saying that the company has sacked about 184 employees in the recent round of layoffs. The union beleives that the number exceeds this, said Lee Conrad, the union's national coordinator.
This estimate was predicted by the union in Jan 2009 and it continues to stick by it. According to it, about 10,000 employees have already been sacked.
While commenting on the layoffs, an IBM spokesperson said that the company is only making the changes based on the client needs across the big workforce of approxiamately 400,000 employees.
