Imphal, Aug 11 (ANI): Activists of Apunba Lup (the apex body of different militant groups leading an agitation against Armed Forces Special Power Act in Manipur) along with members of Joint Action Committee (JAC) and women demonstrators defied the curfew orders to stage a protest march in Imphal.

Carrying banners, they marched to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Gurubachan Jagat, the Governor of Manipur demanding action in a shootout case which they have termed as a 'fake encounter'.

For over one week, Manipur has witnessed prolonged protest-demonstrations seeking action against the police commandoes involved in the recent killing of a suspected militant and a pregnant woman in a crowded market place of Imphal.

The activists demanded the dismissal of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and severe punishment to the commandos who were reported to be involved in the killing of two persons. Our agitation is not a new one. It has been continuing from the first day. We have been demanding life imprisonment for five police commandos involved in the killings," said Anita, Convenor, Apunba Lup and JAC.

"Action should also be taken against responsible top police officers who ordered commandos to fire and an inquiry should be initiated against them. And lastly Chief Minister should also resign for misleading the Assembly," Anita added. (ANI)
