Thiruvalluvar statue unveiled in Bangalore
Bangalore, Aug 9: Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi unveiled the statue of Tamil-poet Thiruvalluvar near Ulsoor lake in Bangalore on Sunday, Aug 9.
More than fifty Karnataka Rakshana Vedike members were detained for protesting against the unvieling of Tamil-poet Thiruvalluvar on Sunday, Aug 9.
Meanwhile, Pro-Kannada organisations burnt effigy of Chief Minister and blocked the roads in Hassan, Tumkur, Chikmagalur, Mangalore, Mysore, Maddur and Bagalkot.
Police took leaders of Kannada protagonist organisations into preventive custody, including KRV chief T Narayana Gowda and Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj.
Over 4,000 security personnel, including those from the Central forces were deployed to provide security during the unveiling of the statue of Thiruvalluvar near Ulsoor lake.
