Paliganj (Bihar), Aug 7 (ANI): The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested seven Maoists including the area commander of banned outfit Communist Party of India (Maoists) from Bihar's Paliganj region late on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF team, assisted by policemen, had raided a school in Badauli village and arrested the seven Maoists.

According to the police, the Maoists were intending to indulge in some untoward activity on Independence Day.

"The information centre got an information a few days back that a few Maoist rebels were making a strategy to indulge into some untoward activity on the Independence Day," said Binit Vinayak, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

"We then started working on the information. And it was a huge success at Paliganj police station, when we arrested the area commander along with his six comrades near Badoli High school," Vinayak added.

The police has recovered two bullet proof jackets and several Maoist literatures from the arrested rebels.

Police further said that the arrested Maoists were behind several attacks on policemen and looting their rifles. (ANI)
