London, Aug 5 (ANI): A third of people in the European Union say they have never used the internet, according to an EU report, which examined the region's digital landscape over the last five years.

What's more, the study found that more than one in four Europeans had never used a PC.

Almost 33 per cent of those with no Internet access said they didn't feel they had a need for it, while one in four said they couldn't afford it, reports The BBC.

The study found that unemployed people and those above 65 years of age were the least active on the Internet.

However, the report noted that more than half of the Europeans had started using the Internet regularly in 2008.

Latvia and Estonia are frontrunners in the web 2.0 charge. Both these countries have more people uploading digital content made at home to web sites than in any of the other 25 states surveyed.

Young Europeans lead in the use of Internet across the EU.

Viviane Reding, the EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media said: "These young people are intensive Internet users and are also highly demanding consumers."

"To release the economic potential of these 'digital natives', we must make access to digital content an easy and fair game," he added. (ANI)
