London, Aug 5 (ANI): With English football giants Manchester United looking for ways to strengthen the club's brand around the world, it is rumoured that David Beckham could make a sensational return to Old Trafford as a Brand ambassador, once his playing days are over.
"It's something that has only been whispered at this stage but Beckham will always be part of the United family. He could do for us what Sir Bobby Charlton has done for us all these years," The Sun quoted a Man U insider, as saying.
It is believed that the prospect could result in a comeback for Beckham, who was unable to regain his place in the Man U team after an injury and an infamous fall-out with manager Alex Ferguson in 2002-2003 season.
The 34 year-old then turned out for Real Madrid before moving on to Los Angeles Galaxy as a midfielder in the American Major League Soccer.
Man U believes Beckham's huge global popularity could help it to spread the club's name and commercial links across the planet once he quits playing.
"There are emerging markets all the time and there could come a time in the very near future when Becks' association with United would be renewed. The club has lost Cristiano Ronaldo as a key marketing tool and Becks would help fill that void when he retires," a source added.
It is also believed that Sir Alex Ferguson could be used in an ambassadorial role for the Red Devils when he quits as manager. (ANI)
