'Frustrated' Ponting smashed door after losing wicket to Swann's "dream ball"

London, Aug. 4 (ANI): Even though the Kangaroos must have been relieved to escape from the third Test last night with a draw, Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting had earlier vented his anger by smashing a door after his second-innings dismissal.

Ponting was targeted by the villain boos when he came out to bat, but he lost his cool when Graeme Swann's ball-of-the-century contender claimed his wicket.

Subsequently, a door bore the brunt of his anger, Mirror.co.uk reports.

Ponting has a history of venting frustration.

Four years ago, he launched a tirade at England coach Duncan Fletcher on the Trent Bridge balcony after being run out by substitute fielder Gary Pratt.

Host club Warwickshire, however, diplomatically absolved Ponting on Tuesday.

Cricket operations manager Keith Cook said: "We have to make all sorts of running repairs all over the ground. I've not had any complaints, but if a batsman has lost his temper when he's out it wouldn't be the first time."

With his side 1-0 down with just two games left to save the urn, he denied he was feeling the heat, insisting: "Our guys don't mind being in this position - I've always said we play our best cricket in adversity."

And he turned his fire on England over Freddie Flintoff's knee injury, saying: "You could see he went downhill pretty quickly in this game. He was hobbling a lot. With him and Kevin Pietersen out, it would leave a few big gaps."

But England skipper Andrew Strauss said: "We're optimistic Fred will be OK for Headingley - it's a massive Test because if we win there, we win the Ashes. But if Fred isn't fit, he will not play." (ANI)
