Singur, Aug 3: Flagging off the new Andolan Local train, linking Singur to Howrah, the Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee on Sunday, Aug 2 announced the new industrial plan. After driving away Tata Motors from the Hooghly district, Mamata plans to set up a manufacturing unit for railway wagons.

It was exactly a year ago, that Mamata Banerjee's agitation forced Tata Motors out of the state. She raised a protest against the 100 acres of land provided for the Tata Motors stating that the land was forcibly acquired from the farmers.

Mamata Banerjee said that the Railways all set to establish industry in the public-private model, if 600 acres of the 1,000 acres land acquired for the Tata plant was given to the Railways. The remaining 400 acres will be returned to the farmers, she said.

Railway Budget 2009-10

"The Railways is taking responsibility to set up the factory and the Centre should declare it a national project... We need 18,000 railway wagons, a railway factory has been set up at Rae Bareli, why can"t it be set up at other places?" Mamata said.

She also said that Singur would be the first to implement the 'Kisan Vision" programme which she proposed in the Railywa Budget 2009-10. Two acres of land owned by the Railways would be developed so that farmers could send their vegetables and flowers, she promised.
