Anderson praises bowling coach Gibson for Edgbaston onslaught

London, Aug. 2 (ANI): England swing bowler Jimmy Anderson has given the credit to bowling coach Ottis Gibson for preparing the swing onslaught that undermined Australia in the third Test at Edgbaston.

"I said at Lord's that Ottis had done a fantastic job, looking at the footage of their guys and we've looked at ourselves. I think the plans are working for us at the minute," the Herald Sun quoted Anderson, as saying.

Gibson, the relatively unknown former West Indies paceman, has been painted as England's swing king architect.

By contrast, Australia's inexperienced attack has struggled to make an impact under Cooley, in the past two Tests in conditions which the England pace bowlers excel.

Anderson and Graham Onions destroyed Australia with nine wickets between them in the first innings as Australia lost 7-77 in the first session of the second day.

"I think if the ball is swinging and you bowl well, most teams in the world are going to have to bat very well to cope with it. I think we bowled consistently well with a swinging ball. We just bowled extremely well.

"I know I've been bowling well and a good ball is going to get a good batsman out in any form of cricket. It's a matter of getting the basics right. Consistency is a problem I've always had," he said.

Australia was bowled out for 263 with Anderson claiming 5-80 and Onions 4-58.

Ricky Ponting claimed it had been hard for all batsmen to start against reverse swing.

"Anderson stepped up for England in the last couple of games and bowled well. As he will when the ball swings like it did," he said. (ANI)
