Lahaul-Spiti (HP), Aug 1 (ANI): Tribals from Lahaul-Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh are elated on receiving free Direct to Home (DTH) service from the state government.
People in this region had no access to happenings in the country. There is no proper medium of communication available in this region.
Free distribution of DTH service has brought communication and information to the threshold of marginalized people of the region. People are now exposed to all types of news, events and new developmental policies of the nation.
"As the region remains cut-off from the rest of the country for almost six months a year. In winter we cannot go out anywhere nor do we have any means of communication at home. Now with the arrival of DTH services, which have been provided to the people, everyone gets updated with the happenings across the globe, "said Kardo, a resident.
Ashwini Kumar Sharma, sub-divisional magistrate of Kaza under the Lahaul Spiti district said that as TV is the only medium of information in Lahaul Spiti, DTH service is turning out to be an effective mode of information and entertainment.
"People have benefited a lot from DTH keeping in view the geographical condition of the region as it remains isolated from rest of the world because of heavy snow fall. TV has turned out to be a much effective mode of information in Lahaul-Spiti, " he added.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had assured the people of tribal region in Himachal Pradesh that they would be provided with 20000 DTH connection boxes. Of these, Kinnour district is allotted 9926 DTH boxes, Pangi Bharmaour sub-divisions 5837 DTH boxes and Lahual-Spiti got 4237 DTH boxes. Spiti sub-division was allotted 1424 DTH. (ANI)
