London, Aug 1 (ANI): Parents of a one-year-old baby girl have to give her a date-rape drug to ease her from the pain caused by a rare skin disease, which makes her skin as fragile as a butterfly's wing.

Isla Grist's skin starts to blister and bleed with the slightest touch and she screams in pain when her bandages are changed.

Thus, her mother Rachael has to give her Midazolam, a sedative prescribed by her doctor.

"Sometimes when we take Isla's bandages off, her skin comes as well," The Daily Express quoted Rachael, 33, from Kinloss in Moray, as saying.

She added: "It breaks my heart to think I've done that to her. I know that Midazolam is a date-rape drug, but it blocks Isla's memories. The last thing we want is for her to associate Mummy and Daddy with pain."

Isla was born with epidermolysis bullosa, or EB, which means that her skin does not bind together properly.

She is one of only six children in Scotland with the condition.

Just rubbing her feet together in her sleep can give Isla blisters.

A spokeswoman for Debra, a charity helping EB sufferers, said: It is an excruciatingly painful condition. Many children need to e on powerful medication just to get through the day." (ANI)
