Gas Tragedy: Arrest warrant against ex-CEO of UCC
Bhopal, Jul 31: According to media reports, a local court has reportedly issued a arrest warrant against former CEO of Union Carbide Corporation, Warren Anderson in relation to the Bhopal Gas tragedy.
The court has charged him with manslaughter and has directed the Centre to take steps to bring him back to the country so that he faces trial.
Bhopal gas tragedy, that is etched in the country's history as the most horrific incident, took place on Dec 3, 1984 at a Union Carbide pesticide plant.
The disaster occurred when poison gas leaked from a Union Carbide plant (now The Dow Chemical Company), thus exposing more than 500,000 people to the toxic gas. According to official data, the death toll of the disaster stands at 2,259.
