Earlier, Gujjar community launched agitation in May 2008 demanding inclusion in the ST category. The agitation was defused after the BJP government in power then passed a Bill clearing 5 pc reservation for them in a special category. But the Bill has so far not been signed by governor S K Singh.
The BJP on Friday, Jul 25 walked out of the Assembly and submitted a memorandum to the governor, demanding the Bill be cleared. With Bainsla having joined BJP now, and his party taking up the issue, the Gujjar agitation could well turn serious again.
