Hughes' latest failure puts more pressure on Aussies

By Super Admin

London, July 25 (ANI): Australian opener Phil Hughes' latest failure has heaped yet more pressure on skipper Ricky Ponting ahead of next week's Third Test at Edgbaston.

Opener Hughes made just 10 in a warm-up game at Northampton on Friday and remains horribly out of touch just when Ponting needs him to start firing.

England's fast bowlers gave him a real tough time with the short ball in the first two Tests, The Sun reports. And it did for him again at Wantage Road as he was caught close in, trying to fend off a David Wigley fizzer.

Struggling Hughes, 20, has made just 57 runs from his three Ashes innings but with no spare openers in the squad, Ponting seems to have no choice but to stick with him for Edgbaston.

Hughes' woes were not helped by legendary Oz opener Justin Langer admitting that he would love to resurrect his international career. (ANI)
