New Delhi, July 24 (ANI): Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday asked all state governments to provide a detailed report of their objectives in the field of higher education by 2020 within a three month deadline.

"In the next three months...each state must give its vision as to what it wishes to do by 2020 in the filed of higher education," he said at a conference here attended by higher education secretaries of states," Sibal said.

The vision should contain "what is the state of affairs (of education) at present, kind of inputs required to realise that vision and budgetary allocation in the years to come," he said.

He also underlined the need for increased partnership between the Centre and state governments on education.

"It should also let the Centre know how they (states) wish to improve the gross enrollment ratio and where the state is likely to be by 2020, besides, how many colleges and universities they have," he said.

Noting that such visions would enable centre to collaborate with the states and set benchmarks where the Government would like India to reach by 2020.

"The state has the first responsibility to educate the child. Unless we look at the national enterprise as a partnership between the Centre and the state we don't think we will be able to deliver for India," he added. (ANI)
