New Delhi, Jul 23: Congress President, Sonia Gandhi is getting tough with her party. According to media reports, Sonia Gandhi has ordered the party leaders to support the government and the Prime Minister on the Indo-Pak Joint statement.
The opposition leaders in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have already expressed their disagreement over the Indo-Pak joint statement that was taken up by Manmohan Singh and Pakistan PM, Yousuf Raza Gilani at the NAM summit in Egypt.
While the BJP leaders in Rajya Sabha slammed this move by the Prime Minister calling it a betrayal to the country, the leaders of Lok Sabha staged a walked out over the issue.
Congress leaders too have reportedly started registering their opposition to this move with Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon. Responding to this stir, Sonia Gandhi has directed all the party men to support the government.
Sonia Gandhi held a meeting on Wednesday, Jul 22 to discuss the issue. She told party leaders and spokespersons not to comment on the issues, which would be addressed by the Government in Lok Sabha.
This meeting is scheduled to happen on Jun 29 as fixed by the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee.
