Bill Gates in India to receive Indira Gandhi Peace Prize
New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): Microsoft founder Bill Gates is in India to receive the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development.
The award will be received on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has been providing grants for public health activities, notably in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention and communication.During his visit, Gates is expected to meet Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad here on Friday.
The Gates Foundation started operations in India in 2003 and has committed over 200 million dollars to HIV prevention in India, its largest commitment to the campaign in any country.
There are 2.47 million persons in India living with HIV, equivalent to approximately 0.36 per cent of the adult population. (ANI)
