The Sports Minister, MS Gill assured that the Manipuri boxer will get her due along with Vijender Kumar and wrestler Sushil Kumar.
"Mary Kom has already been assured by the sports ministry and both Vijender and Sushil can't be ignored after their Beijing showing. The selection committee considered all the factors in nominating them, leaving it to the ministry to decide whether all three should be given the Khel Ratna as a special case," the sports official said.
Four-time women's world boxing champion M C Mary Kom who had to wait three years to get nominated said, "It's been a long wait for me, I have been applying for the award from the past three years. Despite performing, I wasn't even nominated. I regret that."
The ace pugilist is however glad to hear that she has been finally nominated for the prestigious award.
The sports ministry on Monday, Jul 20 released a the list of sports persons who have been nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dronacharya awards.
