Jawan dies in police custody, people allege murder

Vadodara, Jul 18: In a shocking incident, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who was found dead in police custody was allegedly beaten up and killed by the police in the Kawant town of the district.

This incident has sparked off protests, with mobs clashing with the police in the tribal-dominated town. The people are demanding that a murder case be registered against the policemen involved in this incident.

District Superintendent of Police B S Jebaliya reportedly told the media that the BSF jawan, Nuriyabhai Rathwa was arrested for assaulting head constable Chandubhai Viryabhai, and he died in custody.

The protesting mob that stood outside the police station accused the police of killing the jawan. The police had to resort to using tear gas shells to disperse the mob. They have even called for back up from near by police stations to deal with the situation.
