UP police likely to file chargesheet against Varun

Lucknow, Jul 13: The Uttar Pradesh government has granted sanction to prosecute BJP MP Varun Gandhi for his alleged hate speeches made during poll campaign in March. Pilibhit Police may file a chargesheet against the Varun in local court on Monday, Jul 13.

The official source said, "As the government has granted prosecution sanction, police may file a chargesheet against Varun under section 153(A)(promoting enmity on religious grounds), 125 of Representation of the People Act and other relevant sections of the IPC."

Home secretary Mahesh Gupta said, "The government has given a go ahead to the District Magistrate Pilibhit to file chargesheet against Varun, accused of delivering inflammatory speeches during Lok Sabha polls."

The official sources also said, "The cases were lodged under the provision of IPC including section 153 (inciting communal feelings), Representation of People's act and violation of model code of conduct."
