Bihar will not have to return money taken for flood relief: Mukherjee
New Delhi, July 10 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranb Mukherjee today said the Bihar Government will not have to return the Rs 1,000 crore given to it by the Centre, as part of the relief fund for Kosi flood victims.
Mukherjee made this announcement during zero Hour when Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav attacked the Centre for sending a missive to the state government that the amount given for flood relief would have to be recovered.
Yadav expressed hi anguish over the money was being recovered despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declaring Kosi floods as a national calamity.
Yadav said the centre is mum even after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's assurance to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that the matter will be looked into.
Responding to the matter Mukherjee said the letter had been sent as part of a technical requirement. But Union government assures that there is no question of returning or recovering the money from Bihar. The government has taken s decision in the matter keeping in view the magnitude of the tragedy.
