New Delhi, Jul 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party's bid demanding upgraded security for the party's poster boy, Varun Gandhi was rejected by the Government on Tuesday, Jul 7. The Union Home Minister said that they found the security provided for the Pilibhit MP sufficient.

Varun Gandhi is a special Y category protectee. Under this category he gets three PSO's round the clock, one escort and pilot vehicle, sources in Home Ministry said. After reviewing the security arrangements, the present provisions are found to be adequate, the government said.

Expressing concern over her son's security, Maneka Gandhi wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on Sunday, Jul 5 saying that the six shooters from the Chota Shakeel gang, who were arrested recently, were actually targeting her son.

"I am amazed at the lackadaisical attitude of your government...the Home Ministry has taken these threats so casually, so lightly that I am appalled," the letter read.

Apart from this, she also alleged that the Home Minister was 'arrogant and careless of his duties'.

On this issue, the sources in the Home Ministry have clarified that the arrested shooters have been interrogated by the Delhi police and there was no threat to Varun Gandhi from them.
