Los Angeles, Jul 8: Los Angeles court has deined the request for the new trial for convicted India-born fashion designer Anand Jon for sexual assault, ruling that juror had improperly contacted Jon's sister.

The lawyers for Jon had earlier requested for a new trial citing the misconduct but the judge ruled that the juror's contact with defendant's sister before the verdict failed to prevent designer from getting a fair trial.

The Los Angeles Times reported that defense lawyers alleged that Juror Alvin Dymally twice reached out to Jon's sister Sanjana near the end of the trial, possibly seeking a date and then voted for a conviction after she refused to meet him alone.

Jon, 35-year-old was convicted on 16 counts of rape and other charges last year after allegation that he lured aspiring models to Los Angeles and sexually assaulted them. Jon sentence has been set for next month.
